Footage of the NDSM breakwater Amsterdam NL

during a heavy storm.

Amsterdam, NL

Client: City of Amsterdam, Amsterdam Marina

Date: 2011

Project: Orsta was first involved in a feasibility study for this project. Years later, we also won the tender to actually install the breakwater. The Netherlands being a small country, our approach was a little different this time. The pontoons were produced at our own yard, some 80 kilometers south of Amsterdam and, once all pontoons were completed, tugged to Amsterdam. The whole project was on a strict schedule because the Dutch annual in water boat show Hiswa te Water was to be held in Amsterdam Marina for the first time in September 2011.

With a total length of 580 meters, this was, and still is, the largest breakwater in the Netherlands. The pontoons are kept in position by 2 piles each and have built in electricity access points for yachts.

Scope: 580 m Breakwater,

29 pontoons of l 19,97 x w 4,00 x h 2,00 meter

weight 55,000 kgs each
